EGS Modeling: Governing Physics and Key Insights - Hybrid Talk
12-1 PM MST | 11 Mar 2026

CSEG Geothermal Technical Division Talk

Speakers: Ali Shariat and Kevin Joslin
Location: NEW CEGA Classroom, +15 level, 500 4 Ave SW, Calgary AB, T2P 0M2
This talk will also be available online

ABSTRACT:  Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) are attracting significant attention among the various types of geothermal. EGS enables access to deep, hot rock formations that naturally lack sufficient water or permeability. Through advanced stimulation techniques under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, EGS has the potential to significantly expand the global reach of geothermal energy. This work presents an overview of the underlying physics and key parameters critical for geothermal modeling based on insights from case studies.

WEBINAR: Heat to Electricity via the Organic Rankine Cycle - APEGA
11-12 PM MST | 15 April 2026

APEGA Calgary Branch
Waste heat comes from many sources—flue gasses, geothermal water and coproduced fluids, the jacket water of engines, and steam condensate to name a few. But waste heat recovery projects—which capture and utilize this otherwise lost resource and convert it to electric power using the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)—can improve the efficiency, economics, and resiliency of a site. Designing and incorporating these projects requires thoughtful analysis of the thermal balance and site requirements for successful implementation, which will be discussed at a high level in this webinar. Other topics will include guidance on equipment selection, focusing project objectives, and identifying potential roadblocks.
