Powering the Future: What 50 Years of Enhanced Geothermal Teaches Us Today for Canada

November 13, 2025

Over the past five decades, enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) have transformed from a novel concept into a key pillar of clean, firm energy innovation. From the first experiments at Fenton Hill to today’s cutting-edge, high-temperature applications, EGS has evolved dramatically — paving the way for scalable, reliable geothermal energy. To better understand this progress, Clean Air Task Force commissioned a global trends report that captures the technical, economic, and geographic trajectory of more than 100 EGS projects worldwide.
Join us to explore how EGS is unlocking vast, untapped geothermal potential — and what it means for the future of energy. As an added feature of this webinar, we will share an update on the state of the industry in Canada and discuss how policies and regulations will impact the future of next-generation geothermal across Canada. Register now to attend this webinar and learn about the progress and promise of enhanced geothermal.

2025 First Nations Energy Summit

Dec 8-9, 2025 - Vancouver, BC

FNES is the only event in British Columbia dedicated exclusively to advancing First Nations leadership in the clean energy and electricity sectors — and this year will be the biggest yet! Centered on the theme “Transforming Communities: Empowering Indigenous Leadership for a Sustainable Energy Future,” the annual gathering features inspiring panels, high-impact plenary sessions, and a bustling exhibit trade show.

Why 2025 Matters
The 2024 Call for Power made history by requiring a minimum of 25 percent First Nations equity in awarded projects.  With BC Hydro’s 2025 Call for Power now underway and introducing new incentives for deeper partnerships, momentum is accelerating! FNES will be the central forum where this future takes shape.

AAPG Subsurface Energy to Power:  Accelerating Electricity Capacity with Natural Gas, Geothermal, Hydrogen, Lithium

Jan 7-8, 2026 - Houston, Texas

Subsurface Energy to Power focuses on how to solve our looming energy / electricity needs (data centers, communities) by focusing on subsurface resources that can be quickly harnessed for power generation. Natural gas, geothermal, hydrogen, and lithium are key. We explore new solutions including micro-grids, data centers, electricity co-op tie-ins, and bit-coin mining to avoid waiting on long-distance transmission lines, pipelines, or other slow and costly infrastructure.
