Diverso Energy and Mattamy Homes have formed a joint venture (JV) that promises to make new homes more sustainable. Diverso is an Ontario-based utility company that designs, builds and manages geothermal systems to help reduce buildings’ carbon emissions. Mattamy, one of North America’s largest privately owned homebuilders, has committed to a 10% reduction in greenhouse gases (GHGs) for homes sold in 2025 compared to those built to code, representing a 31% reduction from homes build 20 years ago.
The JV will leverage Diverso’s geothermal ‘energy-as-a-service’ (EaaS) model for homes with fully electrified heating and cooling systems. As such systems can be more compact, Diverso will help Mattamy increase the homes’ gross floor area (GFA) with larger outdoor decks.
“We’ve taken what was once a niche, custom energy solution and integrated it into our mainstream production model over the past several years,” says Brad Carr, CEO of Mattamy Homes in Canada. “It’s evolved into a scalable offering, using proven, reliable technology to deliver operational benefits to thousands of Canadian homeowners, at no additional cost to them.”
“The partnership together will greatly accelerate the adoption of geothermal technology in residential developments across Canada,” says Diverso CEO Tim Weber.
