The Canora Community Hall is a 50 year-old community hub that includes an outdoor skating rink, basketball court and skate park for use by the local community.

The retrofit project will include the installation of climate resilience enhancements such as geothermal heating and solar panels to reduce energy costs by an estimated 100% and annual GHG emissions by 50.6 tonnes. Further renovations will include an improved insulation system and upgraded bathrooms.

In addition to the $679,513 investment from the federal government’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program, the Canora Community League is contributing $169,533 toward the building’s upgrades.

“By achieving the Net Zero target, the Community Hall will be positioned to support the evolving needs of residents for the future,” said Joanne Heft, President of the Canora Community League. “This achievement will reduce the financial pressures on members while ensuring the facility remains a secure and reliable resource during emergencies.”
