It is with great sadness that we bring you the news of the passing of Tim Sadlier Brown. Tim was a pioneer in the geothermal industry. As a student, Tim was one of the first people I worked with in the industry where in 1981 he and his company were moving the Meager Creek project forward from greenfield exploration to full scale drilling. Over the succeeding 40 plus years, Tim continued to work to push geothermal forward in Canada. As recently as two years ago, Tim dug through his archives of information and found the video clip of the running of the Meager temporary power plant which in 1983, created the first geothermal power in Canada. His pioneering efforts were recognized by Geothermal Canada in 2018 by making him a lifetime honouree. He was co-founder of Geothermal Canada in 1974 (when it was called the Canadian Geothermal Association). He helped build the organization and kept it going through the ups and downs of geothermal development locally and globally. Sadly, all the founding members, Tim, Jack Souther and Andy Nevin, have now all passed on, but they leave a great legacy behind in the Association. Geothermal Canada will be celebrating 50 years next year. Having personally known and worked with all of them, I know they would all be very pleased with the current uptick of geothermal activity in Canada, but also annoyed not to be around to help!
