Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project - Community Open House

Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project - Community Open House

Geoscience BC and Geological Survey of Canada online community open house provides an update on the work and findings of this first phase of the Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project.
Researchers provided an update on planning for a second phase of work in the Mount Cayley area, approximately 70km west of Whistler. This work is expected to begin in summer 2021 and complete in 2022.
This online community open house was designed for communities, Indigenous groups, government staff, the geothermal exploration sector and others interested in geothermal potential in southwest BC.

GLOBE Virtual: Innovation Pathways and Transition Finance towards Future-Fit Hydrocarbons

GLOBE Virtual: Innovation Pathways and Transition Finance towards Future-Fit Hydrocarbons

Building on the GLOBE Advance session on future-fit hydrocarbons at GLOBE 2020, the work of the Energy Futures Lab and other actors on related innovation, and ongoing developments in transition finance (an emerging pathway for organizations to raise capital to transition emissions-intensive sectors, facilities, and projects to lower-carbon alternatives), this session explores…

How Geothermal and Oil & Gas Complement Each Other

How Geothermal and Oil & Gas Complement Each Other

Alberta has had a reputable oil and gas industry for decades. Since the plunge in oil prices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, there has never been more interest in cleaner, more reliable opportunities in the energy sector - geothermal being one of them. How can we add geothermal to our current mix? How can oil and gas play a role in this energy transition? And how do these two energy sources ultimately complement each other?
The current story around Alberta geothermal has been positive, but there are some technical subtleties that the press and social media does not pick up on. Terrapin is introducing a panel of geologists, researchers, drillers, engineers, and geo-innovation experts to discuss the nuances of the Albertan geothermal and oil and gas context.

Growing Geothermal: The Value of Heat | Clean Energy Webinar Week

Growing Geothermal: The Value of Heat | Clean Energy Webinar Week

Geothermal provides significant opportunities for Canada now more than ever.

What and where is geothermal, and why is now the time to develop it? Terrapin's geologists (and Geothermal Canada's President and Secretary) will provide an update on project Alberta No. 1 and provide the conceptual and technical basis of what the public must know when approaching this industry.

Waste heat recovery is integral to the energy transition.

Waste heat recovery is competitive, cost-effective and economic - a compelling ESG story for heavy industrial facilities. Join Terrapin in this walk-through of the markets, relevant technologies and project development considerations for waste heat to power solutions. The presentation will be followed by a brief Q&A.

Geothermal Development - APEGA Presentation

Geothermal Development - APEGA Presentation

Alberta is well-positioned to become a geothermal leader.

In a cold country like Canada, where the average temperature is 1°C, geothermal energy is more important in terms of its thermal capacity than its electrical capacity; more than 60% of our energy needs is spent on heating. Compared to other energy sources, geothermal is the only clean resource that is capable of effectively heating and providing electricity on a massive scale. Therefore, geothermal has great value not only as a clean power plant, but in terms of its direct heat use.
