Montreal’s Reform Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom is set to become a pioneer with a project to shed its outdated and failing gas-powered heating and cooling system in favour of a geothermal climate control system and becoming one of the greenest buildings on the island of Montreal.

Eligible applicants can access between $10,000 and $90,000 for on-farm energy upgrades, such as geothermal heating systems, high-efficiency motors, ventilation, cooling, refrigeration, grain drying, and lighting systems.

According to Jeff Mosher, HDR’s associate health principal and the PECMH project manager, the new hospital’s geothermal system will provide 50 per cent of the hospital’s cooling and 90 per cent of its heating.
