Presenter Information

Bastien Poux is the Technical Sales Advisor in the Americas for the Leapfrog Geothermal software by Seequent. Bastien holds a MSc in Geology and has published a number of peer-reviewed technical papers on geothermal energy projects. He is geologist with 10 years of experience in geothermal resource exploration, evaluation and development, wellsite geology and 3-D modelling.

What On Earth with Laura Lynch - Geothermal Episode

On Nov. 29, 2020, CBC Listen’s “What On Earth with Laura Lynch” released the episode titled “Mining for heat - can geothermal be part of Canada’s energy future?”

This episode discusses the geothermal potential in Canada, possibility of utilizing petroleum wells for geothermal development, petroleum industry job transferability, as well as three ongoing geothermal projects in Canada. Laura interviews Geothermal Canada President, Steve Grasby, about Geoscience BC’s Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project, Geothermal Canada Director of Western Canada, Kirsten Marcia, about Saskatchewan’s DEEP project, Fort Nelson First Nation Chief Councillor, Sharleen Gale, about the Clarke Lake Geothermal Project in northeast BC, and Ralph Ross about the Springhill Coal Mine in Nova Scotia, which has been converted to a geothermal system.

In September 2021, the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS), in collaboration with the Canadian National Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH-CNC), will host their annual meeting, GeoNiagara 2021, the 74th Canadian Geotechnical Conference and the 14th Joint CGS/IAH-CNC Groundwater Conference.

The theme for GeoNiagara 2021 is Creating a Sustainable and Smart Future. The conference will feature technical sessions on subjects of broad interest in the geotechnical and hydrogeological fields. In addition to the technical program and plenary sessions, the conference will include a complement of distinguished keynote speakers, high calibre short courses, technical tours, and social events.

Geothermal geomechanics involving coupled heat flux, fluid flow and mechanical behavior is becoming of greater interest, and you are encouraged to submit a “Geothermal” Abstract by Jan. 31 2021.
