Jatin Nathwani, the Founding Director of WISE (Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy), is a proponent of geothermal development for power and for heating/cooling needs.  He believes that geothermal power, as well as geothermal cooling and heating, could be developed to the benefit of underprivileged communities around the world.  Issues such as scale of project, technology, and cost-benefit are worthy of discussion.

2020 Geothermal Resources Council Scholarships

“The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) is pleased to announce the availability of the 2020 GRC Scholarship Awards.

To qualify for any of these awards a student must be a GRC member (student memberships are only $20 per year). Selection of recipients will be based upon a variety of factors, including the individual’s academic record, student activities, geothermal industry experience, and career goals”

Geothermal Canada would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Fran Noone for all of her hard work with this organization since it was resurrected in 2017. Fran has been an invaluable team member, providing administrative support, organizing meetings, and keeping everyone on track. Unfortunately for us, she has decided to retire and step away from her duties with Geothermal Canada. We are so grateful for her help in both bringing GC back up and running, and pushing it forward. Thank you Fran, and enjoy your much deserved rest.

Waterloo Geothermal Workshop Presentations Available

The 1.5 day workshop titled “Geothermal Techonology in Canada: Future Pathways” was held from Jan.23-24, 2020 at the university of Waterloo. Several Geothermal Canada board members, including Catherine Hickson and Maurice Dessault, gave presentations. Sessions and presentations are now available for viewing/downloading.

2020 Graduate Research Scholarship Program Now Open

Vancouver, BC – March 10, 2020 - Geoscience BC opened its annual graduate research scholarship program today and is now seeking applications for up to ten awards of $5,000 each for students working on projects in BC exploring each of our three research focus areas: Minerals, Energy and Water.

Eavor Yukon Partners with Carmacks Development Corporation

On Jan. 29, 2020, Eavor Yukon (Eavor) and the Carmacks Development Corporation (CDC) announced a partnership to deliver green baseload energy for the Yukon using a new technology (Eavor-Loop) that was proven last year in a field scale pilot. Eavor and CDC signed an agreement to solidify this partnership.

Eavor Shortlisted for European Geothermal Innovation Award

The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) has announcde the five endorsed nominations for the Ruggero Bertani European Geothermal Innovation Award 2020. One of the nominees isGeothermal Canada member Eavor GMBH, which aims to capture geothermal energy to produce steady and dependable heat and electrical power without emissions of any kind.

“We see a continuous trend in the geothermal sector towards increased efficiency, reduction of costs, and increased attention to socio-economic local benefits,” said Philippe Dumas, EGEC Secretary General. “We are glad that the award is reflecting that. It is important to continue to support this constant improvement both at European and national level in order to keep Europe’s leadership in Research & Innovation.”
