If you are attending WGC 2020 and/or live in Iceland, don’t miss the Leapfrog Geothermal courses held from April 24-25, 2020 just before the conference.

Seequent will hold both a Leapfrog Geothermal Fundamentals Course and a Leapfrog Advanced Course.

The fundamentals course is for entry-level users of Leapfrog Geothermal and covers the basics of modelling from well data, geologic maps, and cross-sections plus geophysics and reservoir simulation integration.

The advanced course will take you beyond the modelling basics and further your knowledge of geological modelling and surface editing techniques, allowing you to have full control over your Leapfrog surfaces and volumes as well as your well data. It will also teach the skills required to critically analyse data to effectively build 3D models.

For those in California, there fundamentals course will also be held in Menlo Park from Feb. 13-14, 2020.

Both courses are $1000USD per person, USD $500 for students.

The Infinite Energy Resource We’re Overlooking: Article from Oilprice.com

By Irina Slav - Dec 15, 2019, 12:00 PM CST

Here’s fun fact: the world’s deepest manmade hole goes 15 kilometers into the ground. They stopped drilling at the 15th kilometer because it got too hot at the bottom of the hole. Welcome to geothermal energy, the reason most religions depict Hell as a place deep underground and the reason why we may succeed in building a clean energy future for the planet without turning it into a disco ball of solar panels.

The GRC Bulletin Sept/Oct 2019 issue interviewed Cathie Hickson in "Chatting Geothermal With...". She speaks about her years of experience in geothermal, volcanology & volcanic hazards, keeping geothermal going in Canada, and being 9 miles away from Mount St. Helen's when it erupted in 1980.

The interview is on pg. 55 of the Bulletin.

1st Canadian Geothermal Students' Day: Summary

The 1st Canadian Geothermal Students’ Days was held at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), Québec City, Canada, Nov. 21-22, 2019. This pan-Canadian event aimed to provide the growing number of young Canadian geothermal scientists with an informal platform of share knowledge, stimulate collaboration and discussion, and to offer career and networking opportunities. A total of 50 people were in attendance.

CouFrac Conference, Seoul, Korea Nov. 11-13, 2020

The analysis of coupled thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical processes in fractured rock masses is a fundamental part of geothermal geoscience and engineering. Please join us at this conference in Korea, and consider putting together an article for the conference.
