Geothermal Workshop at University of Waterloo Jan 23-24, 2019

This 1.5 day Workshop will be held at the University of Waterloo January 23 and 24, 2020. The Workshop will explore current activity in all geothermal technologies being used or considered in Canada, and will generate a short synthesis outlining future pathways to greater adoption of this green energy source.

Geothermal Canada’s Treasurer, Dr. Jeffrey Witter, has started a new geothermal development company with two business partners called Conte GeoEnergy.

Conte GeoEnergy Ltd. specializes in the exploration, planning and development of utility-scale geothermal energy facilities. Conte works with its partners to identify locations where quality geothermal resources can be efficiently and economically deployed to meet demand for near zero-emission baseload renewable power. Event Reminder: 1st Canadian Geothermal Students Day

The 1st Canadian Geothermal Students’ Day will be this upcoming Thursday and Friday in Quebec City. The program includes keynote sessions from John Molson (Université Laval), Jonathan Banks (University of Alberta), Lorenzo Perozzi (Geolearn), Jean-Sebastien Marcil (Utica Resources), and from Geothermal Canada’s board Maurice Desseauly (University of Waterloo) and Kirsten Marcia (DEEP). There will also be a round table featuring Catherine Hickson, Marc-Antoine Audy, Kirsten Marcia , a visit to the INRS geothermal lab, and a workshop “Aquifer: a natural infrastructure for energy- efficient cooling geothermal technology”. In between, there are also oral presentations and a poster session.

Alberta Government Signs Crown Agreement for Terrapin’s Geothermal Project

November 5, 2019 (EDMONTON) – The Government of Alberta granted the rights to conduct testing operations and explore the geothermal energy potential for a project positioned near Grand Prairie. The project, led by Terrapin Geothermics in partnership with the Municipal District of Greenview and PCL Construction, is now one step closer to operating test wells for Alberta’s first large-scale geothermal power facility.

GRC Annual Meeting 2019: Canada Representation

The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) Annual Meeting is fast approaching and we are looking forward to having a strong Canada representation. The conference will be held in Palm Springs, CA from Sept. 15-18, 2019.

Many of our board members as well as our corporate members will be in attendance, and some are presenting talks and/or have posters. Geothermal Canada president Cathie Hickson will give the Country Update in the International Session.

DEEP Field Testing and Drilling Begins

On Aug 27, 2019, Deep Earth Energy Production (DEEP) announced the commencement of the 2019 field testing and drilling program. This comprises of flow and build tests to analyze the brine, reservoir pressure tests, and directional drilling of a second well.
